Biography Nomura, Toshihiko (1904 - 1987)

Nomura Toshihiko was born in Tokyo in 1904. He was trained as a woodblock carver, but he also studied with Kimura Sōhachi (1893-1958). He started exhibiing prints with the Sōsaku-Hanga Kyōkai in 1927, and in the next ten years he exhibited works at many major sōsaku hanga exhibitions, and contributed prints to many Hanga magazines. Like Koizumi Kishio he also carved blocks for other artists, like Ishii Tsuruzō and his own teacher Kimura Sōhachi. After 1936 he was mainly active as a book illustrator
