Biography Henmi, Takashi (1895 - 1944)

Born in Wakayama, Henmi Takashi started making woodblock prints after seeing the posthumous exhibition dedicated to his townsman Tanaka Kiyōkichi, who had died of tuberculosis in 1915. Henmi Takashi was one of the exhibitors at the first Nihon Sōsaku Hanga Kyōkai exhibition in 1919. He was also a founding member of the Nihon Hanga Kyōkai. He contributed to many Hanga magazines (Shi to Hanga, Kaze, a.o.), and to the series One Hundred Views of New Tokyo - Shin Tokyo hyakkei. He was not a professional printmaker, but still highly esteemed.
