Biography Ôta, Kôji (1900 - )

Kôji Ôta was born in Hyôgo prefecture in 1900. He studied at Hongô Painting Institute. He studied printmaking with Onchi Kôshiro and lithography with Oda Kazuma. He was active in the proletarian art movement. He exhibited with the Zôkei Hanga Kyôkai, and was a member of the Nihon Hanga Kyôkai from 1944-1972. He was a founding member of the Japan Print Movement Association in 1949. Around this time he was one of the contributors to the First Thursday Society (Ichimokushû).
He was also active in establishing the Japan Education Print Association in 1951 and in promoting print education for children.
