Biography Fukita, Fumiaki (1926 - )
Fumiaki Fukita was born on the Island of Shikoku (Tokushima Prefecture). While a teacher of art at an elementary school, Fumiaki Fukita exhibited with Nihon Hanga Kyōkai for the first time in 1957, where he won the Onchi award. After that his fame rose rapidly. He participated in numerous international biennales, and won a major prize in Sao Paulo in 1967. Then, in 1968, he became the first regular professor of printmaking at Tama College of Fine Arts, succeeding the etcher and 1951 Sao Paolo prizewinner Tetsurō Komai
To quote Helen Merritt once more: "His prints are characteristically large and printed with oils over water-base pigment. Abstract subjects suggest energy and dramatic activities among galaxies".
