Biography Hirota, Tatsu 広田 多津 (1904 - 1990)

Hirota Tatsu was born in Kyoto, and she lived there all her life. In the 1930s she was intruduced to Kyoto's most famous painter of the period, Takeuchi Seihô (1864-1942). She became a student of Nishiyama Suishô (1879-1958) and exhibited at the Nitten and Shinbunten, winning top prizes on three occasions. She is known for her paintings of jinbutsu, human images, especially of nudes. In 1974 she became a member of the newly established Soga-kai (The Creative Painting Society). Her paintings can be found in many museums in Japan.
