Biography Shigehiko, Okamoto 茂彦 岡本 (1808 - 1844)

Okamoto Shigehiko was born in Kyoto. He was a pupil of Okamoto Toyohiko (1773-1845), who in his turn was Matsumura Goshun's best pupil. At the time he was a very popular painter, but he died before he could fulfil his potential. He had at least one important pupil, Kumagai Naohiko (1828-1913), who was a “Teishitsu Gigeiin” (Imperial court artist).
