Biography Shimizu, Kôshô 清水 公照 (1911 - 1999)
Akira Hiroshi Shimizu, better known as Shimizu Kôshô (real name Osamu Atsushi) was born in Himeji on January 3rd 1911. He became a priest at Todaiji Temple in Nara in 1927, which was the start of a long career there. Well-known for his calligraphy and ceramics he became the Todaiji Temple Museum's first (honorary) director in 1994. He died on May 6th 1999.
