Biography Gyôtei, Kawanabe 暁亭 河鍋 (1874 - 1934)

Gyotei Kawanabe was the star pupil of Gyôsai (Kyôsai) Kawanabe (1831-1889), entering his studio at the age of 10; he gained considerable notoriety by faking his master's work after his death in such a manner that even experts couldn't tell them apart. One reviewer even states that work actually signed "Gyotei" is fairly rare.
Often he is also referred to as Mano Gyôtei. After Gyôsai's death he became a pupil of Kubota Beisen (1952-1906).
