Biography Gy˘tei, Kawanabe 暁亭 河鍋 (1874 - 1934)

Gyotei Kawanabe was the star pupil of Gy˘sai (Ky˘sai) Kawanabe (1831-1889), entering his studio at the age of 10; he gained considerable notoriety by faking his master's work after his death in such a manner that even experts couldn't tell them apart. One reviewer even states that work actually signed "Gyotei" is fairly rare.
Often he is also referred to as Mano Gy˘tei. After Gy˘sai's death he became a pupil of Kubota Beisen (1952-1906).
