Yoshitoshi, Tsukioka (1839 - 1892)

The greedy woman leaving the three sparrows; illustrated is the famous folk-tale "The tongue-cut sparrow" (Shitakiri suzume). The basket she has chosen will turn out to be full of monsters.
Ôban diptych from the series: Sketches by Yoshitoshi (Yoshitoshi manga), published by Kobayashi in 1886.
