Comments from the artist:
“Furyu enshoku Maneiemon (The Amorous Adventures of Maneiemon)” is a story of Maneiemon, who is downsized to a pea by use of magical herbs, travels around Japan to peek at different varieties of lovemakings. Here we have the last scene from the 24 pictures, which depicts Maneiemon looking up a courtesan and her lover having sex on a street at night.
Since Harunobu's portrait is nowhere to be found, Harunobu appears here as Maneiemon with eyes that I imagine. The “Maneiemon” series was published in the first month of Meiwa 7 (1770), the year Harunobu died at 46.
