Sakamoto Yoshinobu (1895 - 1988)
From the series Tosa sanjū ezu (土佐三十絵図) 30 Views of Tosa ) (Shikoku), self-printed between 1932 and 1935: #4 Kenchō mae (県庁前) - In front of the Prefectural Office. Paper size: 37.2 x 25.6 cm. Printed on fairly thin, long-fibred paper. It is difficult to assess if the printing was deliberately clumsy (possibly to reinforce the Sōsaku Hanga character of the print), or because he was not such a good printer.
Good impression and colours, very good condition: some shallow printerís creases.
Illustrated on p. 14 of Lawrence Smith: The Japanese Print since 1900, Old dreams and new visions, where he misattributed it to Sakamoto Hanjirō, a mistake Smith himself corrected in a later book.
