Takeda, Shintarō (1886 - 1957)

Nezame no toko gorge (Kiso river valley, near Agematsu station on the Kisokaido)
Paper size: 51.3 x 38.7 cm. Self-printed, probably in 1930s. A very striking design, the largest I have seen of him so far. This design resembles his contribution Hozu Rapids to the (unfinished) series One Hundred Views of New Japan - Shin Nihon Hyakkei. His usual signature “SHIN” carved in the block.

Euro SOLD

Fine impression and colours, good condition: the print is backed, probably to secure the repair of a tear in the right margin (see detail 1). Still, it is one of the highlights of Sōsaku Hanga in the 1930s.
