Onchi, Kōshirō (1891 - 1955)

Tainan k�by� sokubon (台南孔廟側門) � Side gate of the Confucian shrine in Tainan (Taiwan)
Paper size: 38.4 x 46.9 cm. The blocks were carved by Onchi in 1936, and he made a very limited number of impressions. After the war Sekino Jun�ichir� made between 10 and 20 impressions from the same blocks. He stamped the print verso.
Accompanying the print is the original folder (see detail 1), with the title (�Red Gate�, Formosa by K�shir� Onchi (plus title an artist�s name in Kanji)), AND a group of very clear fingerprints (probably Sekino�s, or perhaps Onchi�s?).

Euro SOLD

Fine impression and colours, very good condition: some tape residue top verso. For the rest this impression by Sekino comes remarkably close to the impressions Onchi made before the war.
