Biography Gen, Yamanaka (1954 - )

Yamanaka Gen was born in 1954 in Fukushima prefecture. In 1978 he graduated at the Fine Arts Department of Tokyo University, and from 1980 he has exhibited regularly all over the world, both in individual and in group exhibitions.
His main medium are woodblock prints, and his subject matter has gradually moved from semi-abstract to abstract works.His most recent exhibition was Print art of today in Fukushima in 2004.
He belongs to a leading group of contemporary Japanese woodblock artists, who are guided by "pure abstractions and symbolic representations of contemporary life".
