Biography Iwata, Sentarô (1901 - 1974)
Born in Tokyo, Iwata Sentarô was an early pupil of Itô Shinsui. Like his teacher he made newspaper and magazine illustrations until WWII. He is mainly known, however, for his woodblock prints of beautiful women, which were published by the big publishing houses, like Takamizawa, Adachi, Katô Junji and Watanabe Shôzaburô. Together with Shimura Tasumi he was one of the best-known designers of cinema posters, particularly after WWII. A very accomplished artist.
