Biography Okumura, Kôichi (1904 - 1974)

Born and bred in Kyoto, Kôichi Okumura was a graduate at the Kyoto Specialist School of painting. He was a student of the famous Nihonga painter Nishimura Goun (1877-1938), and he became known as a landscape painter, exhibiting with the Teiten, Shin Bunten and Nitten.
He became a professor at the Kyoto City University of Arts, while also teaching at the Saga Fine Arts Junior College. In the field of woodblock prints he is mainly known for his series Twelve views of Kyoto - Kyoto jûni fûkei, published by Unsôdô in Kyoto in 1948.
