Biography Sengai, Igawa (1876 - 1961)

Igawa Sengai was born in Gifu prefecture in 1876. He was a student of Tomioka Eisen. Later he graduated from the school of Taiheiyōgakai, where he became a member.
He is mainly known for his prints, but he also produced some quite charming paintings. He worked as an illustrator for the Miyako Shinbun and exhibited his work at the Teiten. Igawa Sengai contributed to the series New Ukiyo-e Beauties (Shin ukiyo-e bijin shō), which was published around 1924.
