Biography Onda, Akio (1924 - ?)

In 1956 Akio Onda (born in Tokyo in 1924) graduated from the Western-style painting department of Musashino College of Fine arts. He studied Western style painting with Yatarō Noguchi (1899-1976), and mokuhan (the technique of woodblock carving and printing) with Shikō Munakata (1903-1975), and he worked as his assistant between 1963 and 1968 at the same college where he had studied and graduated.
From 1965 on he had solo exhibitions of his moku-hanga.His prints are printed in sumi, whereas its colours are applied by hand from the back, a technique also used by Shikō Munakata ; the subjects of his prints are mainly haiku poems, children's daily life and Buddhist subjects.
