Drawings by Ôzui, Maruyama 円山応瑞

Maruyama Ôzui, was the eldest son and pupil of Maruyama Ôkyo (1733-1795), founder of the leading Kyoto painting school. He adopted Ôshin, son of his brother Ôju as his son. In the 1790s he was commissioned to paint some of the fusuma (sliding doors) for the restauration of the imperial palace in Kyoto. He followed his father's style faithfully.
